Little Kellen hasn't spoken since his mother passed away. Shameful and isolated, his father makes the decision to travel one summer to the Island of El Hierro; thinking that some time away from the German city of Dresden will help him overcome the situation. Alaric and Ebba, a married couple who lives on the Island, welcomes them into their home but the quarrels don´t take long to appear, because not even the years have erased the betrayals of the past that ended up distancing them.

When Kellen meets Manuel, an old man from the town with an intellectual disability and a mental age of 10, a complicity is born between them that manages to overcome communication and language barriers. In this way, the boy discovers the fascinating world that is hidden behind Manuel's loneliness: the naturalness of his new friend, the routines of the countryside and the charisma of the town.
